WICR CAMPAIGN EVENT DETAILS

WI Federation of College Republicans to hold state convention
Convention will be this weekend. VanHollen, Wall, Westlake, Newmann, Davis scheduled to speak

The University of Wisconsin-Madison College Republicans (UWGOP) in conjunction with the Wisconsin Federation of College Republicans (WICR) publicly released the weekend’s schedule for their annual convention that will be held in Madison April 23 through April 24, 2010. Members at the convention will convene to hold elections for statewide officers, hear speeches from various candidates, and receive reports and updates on the Federation’s events for the following year.

The event will feature a kick off reception at Brocach Irish Pub on Capitol Square. Attorney General JB VanHollen will speak.

The conference will then reconvene on Saturday. Republican candidates for U.S. Senate Dave Westlake and Terrence wall will speak at 9:30am and 10:30am respectively.

Saturday’s events and the conference will conclude with a lunch banquet at Zander’s Capitol Grill on State St. Wisconsin State Assembly member and current candidate for lieutenant governor Brett Davis will speak as well as gubernatorial candidate Mark Newmann. They will begin speaking at 2:00pm.

UWGOP chair Crystal Lee says that this year’s convention will perhaps be more important then those of years past because of the potential impact the fall elections will have on the future of the country.

“Obviously ever election is important, but the Democrats have proven that they are incompetent to do anything with jobs, the economy, our national debt, or health care reform that the populace actually wants.”

“The GOP is in a great position to take back key seats at the local, state, and national levels, like we saw in New Jersey, Massachusetts and Virginia. The convention will set the stage for next year and we will be able to organize as grassroots supporters for our candidates. We’re very excited [for the elections] and view this as our kickoff to victory in 2010.”

Two UW-Madison students are running for WICR positions: Brookfield native Johnny Koremenos will be running for chairman, and Onalaska native Jerad McHenry will be running for secretary. Nearly 100 students from around the state are expected at the event.
